✦ Synopsis
An approach to an understanding of the effect of the crack root-radius on stress intensity factors (K,, I&r, Km) has been made by the photoelastic method.
Preliminary experimental results shown that when p < 0.04 mm, there seems to be the possibility of obtaining more satisfactory testing result of K,. When p = 0.12 mm, compared with the theoretical values there is no obvious deviation yet (-4.83%). The effect of p is greater on Ku than on Kr. The test values of Km seem insensitive to the variation of p.
