โœฆ Synopsis

This is the second part of a three part paper that reports the results of an investigation into the aerodynamic and ventilation characteristics of poultry transport vehicles . In Part 1 the results of full scale aerodynamic measurements were described . In this paper the results of an extensive series of wind tunnel ef fects are described and discussed , and in Part 3 a method of calculating internal flow conditions is set out , and a comparison made between the results of this method and full scale internal environmental measurements . In this paper results are presented for the pressure distributions around a poultry transport vehicle over a wide yaw and flow range , together with some measurement of the external vehicle flow field and some flow visualisation at zero yaw . A comparison with the full scale measurements of Part 1 suggest that the model scale data is reasonably accurate , except near the front of the vehicle where extensive flow separation occurs . Overall , it is concluded that the results are adequate for use as boundary conditions in the calculation method set out in Part 3 .

The method is used to predict temperature and humidity in the crates during a typical journey and the results are compared with measurements made at full scale during a journey . Optimization of factors in the calculation is performed and a sensitivity analysis is used to assess the impact of variou
