The fracture of large second phase particles in advance of a crack tip was investigated. The experiments allow establishment of a fracture criterion for particles. Fracture toughness is shown to increase almost linearly with particle distance.

The effects of second phase particles, e.g. kf2,C6. MC and M(C, N) carbides on the grain growth phenomenon of Fe-Ni-Cr alloys have been determined. Various theoretical models on grain coarsening have been compared. The grain size at all stages of grain coarsening was dependent on the undissolved car
## Abstract The second phase particles in 3003 aluminum (Al) alloy were characterized by scanning electron microscope, energyβdispersive Xβray analysis and Xβray diffraction techniques. The role of second phase particles in Al alloy pitting corrosion was investigated by cyclic polarization measurem
