✦ Synopsis
This study investigates the toxic effects of a variety of polymers on two non-adherent mammalian cell lines of a type frequently grown in bioreactors. It shows that the toxicity of materials such as polyurethane varies considerably depending on the manufacturing process. Polymers like nitrile which kill cells appear to do so by continuously releasing a toxic substance into the culture medium.
