faults in multiphase (phase order more than three) transmission systems. The methods employing symmetrical component transformations as well as phase coordinates are developed and examined for their suitability of application to multiphase systems. With a generalized treatment in view, two general expressions (applicable to any phase order) are derived to obtain a voltagecurrent relationship by the symmetrical component method and fault currents by the phase coordinate technique. A numerical example is included to substantiate the findings in the present work as well as to bring out a comparative view of the performance of various multiphase systems in the faulted state.
