## Abstract We consider the divergence form elliptic operator __A__=ββ~__x__,__z__~Β·(__c__^2^(__x__,__z__) β~__x__,__z__~) in the strip Ξ©=βΓ [0,__H__]. The velocity __c__(__x__,__z__) describes the multistratification of Ξ©: a horizontal stratification with a compact perturbation __K__, the velocity

β¦ Synopsis
An inverse problem of photon transport in a dusty medium with slab symmetry is studied. The problem consists in ΓΏnding the unknown densities of two di erent kinds of dust from measurements of radiation intensities at two di erent frequencies. Under suitable assumptions, the problem is shown to have a unique solution. Some numerical experiments are also presented. Copyright ? 2005 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

## Abstract In this paper we shall define an inverse problem for the Helmholtz equation with imaginary part of the wave number being positive. The Cauchy data are known on the boundary of the half plane, but it is not known where the half axis, lying vertically in the upper half plane, is situated.
An inverse design problem in which we seek a flow solution that matches a prescribed target flow is formulated as an optimization problem. Some numerical results are presented which show that the optimization procedure converges quickly and results in a very good match between the design and target
## Abstract We present a model arising from the thermal modelling of two metal casting processes. We consider an enthalpy formulation for this twoβphase Stefan problem in a time varying threeβdimensional domain and consider convective heat transfer in the liquid phase. Then, we introduce a weak for
