✦ Synopsis

Abstract

A distributed fiber optic intrusion detection sensor is proposed, in which a nonbalanced Mach‐Zehnder interferometer is used as phase demodulator, and an optical time domain reflectometer is used as a position detector. The experimental results concluded that the positioning error of ±25m can be achieved along an 8.8‐km single mode fiber. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. ## Abstract A fiber optic distributed sensor, based on a Sagnac interferometer for determining the location of time‐varying disturbance, is presented in this paper. The proposed distributed sensor constitutes a Sagnac interferometer with an additional time delay fiber loop. Due to the time‐division
