✦ Synopsis
Reviews assumptions, for instance that the book was exclusively written for a strictly engineering-minded readership, and/or that its only task was to procure technical advice and competence in dealing with probability problems or frequency distributions involved in the evaluation of stream flows, water temperatures and oxygen content, meteorological data and so on, it is certainly inappropriate to forget the real fundamentals of any discussion of a natural aquatic environment : the biological-chemical interactions. As far as engineering subjects are concerned, the long experience and professional competence of the author is clearly visible. The last chapter on management of waste disposal and stream flow quantity and quality reflects sound thinking on the many legal, administrative and human problems involved when private economic interests and legitimate public claims for environmental control are confronted.
The book is carefully made up and printing and graphs are excellent. Due to the obvious shortcomings in the contents it will probably find, however, a restricted readership.
