THE ANALYSIS of slip phenomena in gas-liquid flow has overlooked a possible cause of slip which can play a role in both vertical and horizontal bubble flow and in horizontal slug flow.

It is well known, since the work of NICKLIN, WILKES and DAVIDSON [l], that in a vertical tube, the relative velocity of a gas slug, with respect to the liquid ahead of the bubble, is made up of two parts : G+L u = 0.35(gD)* + 0.2 7
