Abstract
A novel compact ultra‐wideband (UWB) metal‐plate monopole antenna for mobile‐phone applications is presented. The antenna is easily fabricated from a single metal plate and is suitable to be embedded within the casing of a mobile phone as an internal antenna. Further, the antenna shows a wide operating bandwidth of about 6 GHz (about 1.9–7.9 GHz), which makes it easily cover the UMTS band (1920–2170 MHz) for mobile communications and the 2.4‐GHz (2400–2484 MHz) and 5.2/5.8‐GHz (5150–5350/5725–5875 MHz) bands for WLAN communications. That is, the antenna is suitable for application in a UMTS/WLAN dual‐mode mobile phone. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
