โœฆ Synopsis

The diameter distribution of ยฎbers plays an important role in the performance of many ยฎberglass products. The ยฎberglass industry, however, currently lacks the advanced instrumentation necessary for performing on-line ยฎber diameter measurements. Enhanced measurement capabilities would provide manufacturers and researchers a tool to improve ยฎberizing methods, production efยฎciency, and overall ยฎberglass product performance. This paper describes the size measurement of moving glass ยฎbers using the Phase Doppler Anemometry technique. Simulation results are presented and validated experimentally. Theoretical modeling uses the mathematical solution for a tilted circular cylinder interacting with focused Laser beams. Experimental laboratory studies have been also conducted to evaluate the factors not included in the theoretical models.

We have improved the optical interferometric imaging technique that was recently used to measure local organic material concentrations in quasicylindrical cells. This allowed similar measurements for cells of arbitrary shape. The setup was used to measure the thickness of skin comeocytes. o 1% wiley

## Abstract With the continually improving performance of longโ€distance optical communication systems, it becomes important to administer and control wavelength dispersion of the optical fiber. In this paper, a method of measurement of the group velocity dispersion (GVD) of an optical fiber using o
