โœฆ Synopsis

Manpower forecasting has made significant contributions to human resource management. Due to difficulties in collecting the required data for making appropriate analysis, most studies in the literature concentrate on forecasts of individual firms. This paper presents a regression model which utilizes the data of large firms to draw inferences to the demands of other firms. More specifically, a regression model showing the negative relationship between the rank of a f i r m and its associated demand is fitted to the data of a number of large manufacturing firms. The area under the regression line delineated by the y-axis and the x-axis is then an estimate of the total demand of the whole industry. Confidence intervals for the estimate can also be constructed. As an illustration, the demand for the industrial management manpower in Taiwan is forecasted by applying the proposed model.

In this paper we present an intelligent decision-support system based on neural network technology for model selection and forecasting. While most of the literature on the application of neural networks in forecasting addresses the use of neural network technology as an alternative forecasting tool,

One of the important reasons for the low success rate of the practical implementation of Business Process Reeingineering (BPR) is the lack of good models. A good model for BPR should support not only process analysis and reengineering but also information systems development. This paper suggests an

The modelling of the spread of fire and its extinguishment still represents a significant challenge. As part of a combined experimental and computational study of fires we have developed a general Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) model of fire spread and extinguishment. The primary objective was t
