✦ Synopsis
An innovative method is provided for measuring Young's modulus in a thin flexible multi-layered material. The method is based on a nonlinear deformation theory. By measuring the vertical displacement and the deflection angle, each Young's modulus can be easily obtained for various multi-layered materials. Measurements were carried out on a two-layered material consisting of a thin piano wire and a copper electrodeposition layer. The results confirm that the new method is suitable for a thin material. Meantime, the new method can be applied widely to measure Young's of thin layers formed by PVD, CVD, Coating, Paint, Cladding, Lamination, and others.
