An in¯uence of the chemical structure of components of pyrotechnic smoke formulations on thermochemical parameters of their combustion process as well as on the attenuation of 1.06 mm and 10.6 mm laser radiation have been investigated. Some non-oxygen compositions of general formula C a H b Cl c F d Mg e were examined. All of the mixtures tested had nearly the same elemental composition but the compounds being carriers of particular elements were changed. As carbon carriers polystyrene or naphthalene or diphenyl were used. In this way we showed that the in¯uence of component structure on coef®cients of laser radiation extinction is rather small. This effect is probably observed due to the high temperature in combustion wave which causes too deep structure degradation of precursors of main smoke component (soot). For that reason, the physical and chemical properties of soot precursors do not affect optical parameters determining the particles activity in IR region.
