The published data on the toxicity of certain chemical poisons and different industrial waste waters reveal that there is considerable variation in the effect of these pollutants . The aquatic organisms applied in the bioassays differ greatly in their susceptibility to toxic substances . A large series of different organisms was applied with success to determine the tolerance limits for individual substances and their mixtures .
