## Abstract The mechanisms of formation of biogenic magnesium‐rich calcite remain an enigma. Here we present ultrastructural and compositional details of ossicles from the seastar __Pisaster giganteus__ (Echinodermata, Asteroidea). Powder X‐ray diffraction, infrared spectroscopy and elemental analy
