✦ Synopsis


A superconducting tunable bandstop resonator has been demonstrated. This design has been used for analyzing the dielectric properties of thin SBT film. The loss tangent and permittivity of the thin SBT layer have both been extracted by comparing simulation with measured results. These results indicate a permittivity of about 430 for thin-film Sr Ba TiO . It should be noted that the frequency shifts 0.97 0.03 3 obtained in this work are significantly smaller than those w x obtained for other films elsewhere 2, 12 . We believe that this is due to the quality of the particular films measured. The loss tangent results are similar to other measurements. The loss tangent is seen as high for application in microwave circuits. However, the effect of this loss can be adjusted by altering the thickness of the thin films, and a tradeoff between frequency shift and loss can be obtained. It should also be noted that ultra-miniature devices, with higher tunability Ž . smaller interdigital gaps , can be made out of HTS and ferroelectrics if very high-Q circuits are not required in the application.
