Abstract
In this article a new method of computation of input impedance of a probe‐fed ring resonator is presented. The method utilizes both cavity model and circuit theory to accurately predict the impedance of a high Q‐dominant mode resonance. Apart from accurate, this method can be generalized to predict impedance of first few modes of a probe‐fed ring resonator to reasonable accuracy. The computed result is compared with previously published data for TM~12~ mode and discrepancies observed are listed. The method is also used to compute impedance for first few modes. For dominant mode, the numerical results are compared with IE3D results, which is a commercially available software based on method of moments. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
