โœฆ Synopsis

An improved method for the calculation of excess free energies of surface solutions is proposed. It is shown that, although the method is based on rigorous thermodynamic arguments, it is not free from nonthermodynamic parameters, which, as in the previous ones, may affect considerably the calculated values of the excess free energy.

An integration method is presented for calculating, in conjuction with molecular dynamics, free energy differences between states separated in configuration space. A simple model system for liquid neon is used to illustrate the method. The potential of mean force for conformation change is evaluated

The evidence presented seems to indicate that, despite the apparent extreme changes in the deformation process due to quenching, there are certain areas that remain unaffe~~d. This leads to the suggestion that the "forest" effect is important in explaining the mechanics1 behavior of aluminum crystal

A challenge in free energy calculation for complex molecular systems by computer simulation is to obtain a reliable estimate within feasible computational time. In this study, we suggest an answer to this challenge by exploring a simple method, overlap sampling (OS), for producing reliable free-ener
