✦ Synopsis
An improved counting vial for the measurement of low-energy gamma rays in liquid scintillation counters has been developed. In this vial the sample is separated from the scintillation cocktail. Within wide limits no correction is necessary for the height of the sample or for decreased efficiency in colored samples. A correction is needed only for the counting efficiency, which is a constant for each vial within wide limits of size and composition of the sample. A number of commercially available gamma-counting vials are compared with the improved counting vial. The new vial is particularly useful in the measurement of 125I used in radioimmunoassays.
