This paper describes the design of a GPIB interface for the VELA (Versatile Laboratory Aid) intelligent interface system. It includes a brief description of the VELA, and how it might be used in data capture and scientific experimental control, to provide a concurrent interface processing facility for computers which are able control GPIB based instrumentation systems.
