This paper considers an extension of the frc feld modelling technique to include two-phase firesprinkler scenarios-namely the interaction between hot combustion gases and the sprinkler spray. The two techniques currently available to simulale a spray. namely the Lagrangian particle-tracking method and the Eulerian volume-fraction method. are discussed. The mathematical basis of a transient three dimensional computer model based on the latter type is described within this first part. ' 171,38 (1984).
