✦ Synopsis
The photoluminescence efficiency from quantum well is experimentally known to vary markedly depending on the well-width, whose interpretation is given in our recent paper [Phys. Rev. ~4, 2500 (1986)]. The emission efficiency is affected by whether the electron transferred from the barrier into the highest subband within the well has still a kinetic energy large enough to emit multiple optic phonons before peforming a recombination, or it is near the bottom of the subband and easily can recombine with a hole.
In this paper the effect of hole subband is considered.
