✦ Synopsis

A material expert system has been established for the evaluation of critical flaw size in structural components subjected to fatigue loads. Specimen/size, load amplitude and mean stress and material type can be varied such that their combined effects can be accounted for in determining the condition of global instability. This corresponds to the onset of rapid crack propagation. This computer expert system permits quick access to material selection and geometry alteration design. (D. S. Prerau, Developing and Managing Expert System. Addison-Wesley, New York (1990)).
