โœฆ Synopsis

This paper presents the evaporation times of gasoline and diesel droplets settled on smooth surfaces of aluminum, stainless-steel, carbon-steel, ceramic MgO, and kaolin. Measurements of the total evaporation times of a 3.4mg gasoline droplet at surfaces temperatures ranging from 60 to 400ยฐC, and a 5.1mg diesel droplet at surfaces temperatures ranging from 130 to 500ยฐC are reported. Results show that the evaporation times of the droplets on the porous materials (MgO and Kaolin) were lower than on the metalic materials at the same surface temperature. The temperatures at minimum evaporation time for the surfaces tested were determined. It was found that this temperature is inversly dependent on thermal diffusivity.

A mathematical model has been formulated which describes the initiation of acetaldehyde cool flames in the free convection boundary layer adjacent to a horizontal hot pipe. The model accurately predicts the experimentally determined boundary layer temperature profiles in the case of nonreacting flow
