โฆ Synopsis
Flame behavior during explosions in cylindrical enclosures with obstacles has been investigated. Photographic records show the influence of a wire grid, a circular plate, and an orifice on the flame's shape. The reduction of total combustion time is measured by pressure recordings. It is shown that the acceleration of the combustion process is greatest with the orifice. The instantaneous flow velocity was measured behind the orifice during the short explosion process using a laser-Doppler anemometer. Typical characteristics of the velocity distribution were found to be similar to those obtained in steady flows.
