✦ Synopsis
The derivatization of alkadienes by dimethyl disulfide has been used previously to locate the double bonds separated by one methylene group. A four-membered cyclic thioether substituted with two alkyl chains is synthesized, each containing a methylthio group b to the ring. The present experimental and theoretical work shows that two new products are observed after the reaction, in particular structures with one methylthio group on the ring and one on the chain. These compounds are useful for determining the positions of the double bonds.
