Abstract
This article presents a fiveβStep process, which can be applied as part of an ergonomic management program. A case study relates how successful application of the process resulted in the reduction of occupational injuries and associated costs. The healthcare industry has been plagued by back injuries resulting from patient and resident handling. On November 23, 1999, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) released the Proposed Ergonomic Management Standard, which, when finalized, will require organizations to put in place ergonomic management programs as discussed in this article.
