Abstract
A lot of different definitions for active and nonβactive quantities and their compensation are known in case of singleβ or polyphase systems under steadyβstate conditions. In practice the load as well as the source of such a system is varying with time. This requires compensation methods which are ready to deal with dynamic conditions. In the most general case the load may be nonβlinear and even change from passive to active and vice versa. This paper presents a control scheme for a series compensator (series active filter) in a singleβphase circuit which can handle a wide range of passive and active nonβlinear loads under dynamic conditions. No information about the character of the source and the load is required, as long as load and source current can be controlled by appropriate voltages.
