โœฆ Synopsis

In order to guarantee a proper operation of both UPC/NPC and CAC functions in ATM networks, the intrinsic trafยฎc characteristics of connections should ยฎrst be adequately described by a set of standardized trafยฎc parameters. The most signiยฎcant trafยฎc descriptors for the VBR service are SCR (Sustainable Cell Rate) and MBS (Maximum Burst Size). In this paper, we work on trafยฎc parameters estimation from VBR source modeling in ATM networks. We propose a new method of trafยฎc parameters estimation from the VBR ON/OFF source model, which satisยฎes the quality of service (QoS) requirements with the least cost.

This article presents a novel approach to ATM congestion control for ABR (Allowed Bit Rate) service. This approach can achieve a desired fair link utilization using adaptive filters to prevent both network collapse and the 'beat down' problem.
