Like the patients described by Jansen Steur ( l ) , both of these patients had increases in finger tap scores, whereas unlike his patients, they had the induction or worsening of action tremor. In only one patient (patient 5 ) were symptoms of depression substantially ameliorated during treatment with fluoxetine (a I-point reduction in item 3 of the UPDRS). No patient showed improvement in item 4 (motivation/initiative).

The present observations are consonant with the previous reports and reinforce the suggestion that serotonin reuptake inhibitors should be used with circumspection when treating the depression associated with Parkinson's disease.
