✦ Synopsis

The advantage of the envelope finite-element time-domain (EFETD) method compared to the direct finite-element time-domain (FETD) method is that a much larger time step can be used. Although both approaches use the Newmark-Beta technique for time-stepping, it has recently been demonstrated for the FETD method that weighted Laguerre polynomials may be profitably used as temporal expansion functions, obviating the need for the time-stepping scheme. In this paper, the incorporation of such temporal expansion functions into the EFETD method is proposed and demonstrated.
