✦ Synopsis
For offences against the person, the term 'coincidence factor' is defined as the probability of a suspect innocently possessing a bloodstain, the groups of which are consistent with the blood having come from the victim. Using population data for ABO blood groups, and survey data for bloodstains on clothing, an expression is derived to allow calculation and interpretation of coincidence factors.
