✦ Synopsis
Abstract
A novel foam‐base chip antenna having an attractive property of electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) with the nearby conducting elements is presented. With the EMC property, the proposed antenna is very suitable to be applied in a mobile‐communication device as an internal antenna. For this kind of application, the antenna can be placed in very close proximity to the RF‐shielding metal case in the mobile device, without very small or negligible effects on the antenna performance, which can lead to a compact integration of the internal antenna with associated elements in the mobile device. A design example of the proposed antenna for wireless local‐area network (WLAN) operation in the 2.4‐GHz band is demonstrated. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
