β¦ Synopsis
An elementary one-dimensional analysis is presented for the impact of a rigid-plastic rod against an immovable anvil. One consequence of this analysis is a relationship among the quantities final rod length, final undeformed rod length and final diameter of the impact face. This theoretical relation is compared with actual experimental data and shown to be approximately correct.

A method is presented for determination of the complex modulus of a linearly viscoelastic material from measured end-point accelerations of an impact-loaded rod specimen. An iterative numerical scheme was used. An approximate analytical solution was also established for the case of small acceleromet
