โœฆ Synopsis

A physical model of diatomic and linear triatomic molecules based on vibrational and (some restricted) electronic degrees of freedom can be transformed into an effective, algebraic Hamiltonian, such that its parameters possess a clearly defined physical meaning: some parameters are interpreted geometrically, as minima on diabatic potential surfaces, others are related to coupling strengths between electronic and vibrational motions.
