β¦ Synopsis
An analysis was made of the potential of the electrochemical approach to quantitation and characterization of metallothioneins. The BrdiCka procedure for determination of sulfhydryl groups was shown to be of utility as a standard determination method while anodic stripping voltametry was found to offer advantage in determination of protein-bound zinc and cadmium. Cyclic voltametry was observed to differentiate metallothioneins from other sulthydryl-or disuhide-containing compounds, suggesting considerable potential as a characterizing method for metallothioneins.
