Abstract
A generalized calculation was carried out on the interaction energy and interaction force of point defects with extended dislocations due to the elastic‐modulus effect. It was shown that the maximum interaction does not occur at the middle of two partials. The results obtained were used to estimate the maximum interaction energy between a vacancy and an extended dislocation and the hardening coefficient, α~v~, for vacancy‐dislocation interaction. These results were examined in the light of experimental results in gold. Further, it was noted that asymmetry in the sign of the interaction above and below the slip plane will not occur when the interaction between an edge dislocation and a point defect is predominantly of the elastic‐modulus type rather than an elastic‐misfit type.
