A concise synthesis of the rifle compounds 6 is accomplished in high ovelall yield in a two step process starting from bromoketone 4. A thiazole ring focmafiou and a non-phenolic oxidative coupling reaction using PIFA are featnres of the described synthesis. An exploration of the electronic requirements and ~ regioselectivity of the cycli7mlon is also presented.
