✦ Synopsis


Economic models often involve large systems of linear equations which are sparsely populated with nonzero entries. The use of sparse solution packages to solve these models saves computer CPU time, and, more importantly, has the potential to conserve large portions of the research time of economic modellers, as little modification of the original systems of equations is required. There are also considerable advantages for users in working with computer versions of models which have been obtained by eliminating as few variables as possible from the original system.
