Thermal double cyclization reaction using ortho-vinylbenzaldehyde and 3-aminopropanols proceeded smoothly to give isoquinoline derivatives via 6p-azaelectrocyclization pathway. The method was applied to the efficient synthesis of (S)-cryptostyline II.
