✦ Synopsis
The use of the orthogonal method for compensating the excitation of an array with the mutual coupling between the array elements has been presented. The effectiveness of the technique was validated with several examples of broadside and end-fire arrays with low side-lobe levels and any interelement distance of the array. On the contrary, the Fourier decomposition technique gave satisfactory results for interelement distances larger than approximately /2.
Considering the geometry of the array and the desired pattern, one can implement an appropriate beam-forming network. In fact, the network can make the mutual coupling compensation on the signal at the feed point of each element, so that the array pattern will be the desired one.
