We consider the inverse coefficient problem of locating the interface positions arising in frequency sounding of layered media. Such a problem is of particular interest in the exploration of geophysics, underwater acoustics and electromagnetics, optical sensing, and so forth. We found that a simplif

β¦ Synopsis
An efficient algorithm is described for studying the nucleation properties of particles with short-range potential using Monte Carlo simulation. The hierarchical division method, implemented through an octree structure in which we repeatedly decompose the simulation cube into eight sub-cubes, is used to decrease the time required for the simulation. An efficient region search algorithm is introduced for the potential and cluster member calculations. Algorithms which perform the calculation of cluster properties of the system in ~9(N log N) time are introduced. These algorithms allow the study of systems with over 100000 particles in less than a day using moderately sized workstations.

An efficient algorithm is presented for the approximate location of a transition structure by finding the minimum of the seam of intersection of two diabatic surfaces. The algorithm is sufficiently stable that the optimization can be started from the product geometry. The procedure is ilhrstrated wi
In this paper, a solution method is presented to solve the eigenproblem arising in the dynamic analysis of non-proportional damping systems with symmetric matrices. The method is based on the Lanczos method to generate one pair of Krylov subspaces consisting of trial vectors, which is then used to r
