✦ Synopsis
In the conventional echo canceler based on an adaptive filter, echo suppression performance is degraded when a correlation exists between the interference signal (echo) and the desired signal. In this paper, we propose a novel echo canceler, which can be used even if a strong correlation exists between the interference signal and the desired signal. In the proposed echo canceler, the input signal to the adaptive filter is converted into impulsive signals, and then the weights are calculated. By conversion to an impulsive signal, the overlap in time between the interference signal pulse and the desired signal pulse is minimized, which helps to secure the interference signal suppression performance of the adaptive filter. The performance of the proposed echo canceler is demonstrated by computer simulations.
