✦ Synopsis

An automatical remeshing scheme has been developed to enable finite element simulation of complicated forming processes. In order to avoid the tedious procedures of interrupting the analysis, performing rediscretization, mapping of current state variables and preparing the new set of boundary conditions, a fully automatical remeshlng method is necessary. The different steps of this method and one industrial example are presented.

Three-dimensional finite element simulation of electron beam welding of a large copper canister has been performed. The use of an automatic remeshing algorithm, based on a graded hexahedral element was found to be effective. With this algorithm the strongly nonlinear thermomechanical effects locally
