✦ Synopsis

A 17-month-old child with an asymmetrical bulging of the chest due to an intramural fibroma of the heart is described. The clinical symptoms that may be caused by cardiac tumours are discussed. To detect these tumonrs several investigations can be performed, of which echocardiography is the most specific. Surgical resection of these tumours should be attempted, even if a complete resection is not possible.
