Abstract
As a striking similarity exists between the structures of the proposed organic superconductors and certain naturally occurring products of biological activity, it seems reasonable to ask whether Nature has already utilized this phenomena in a living system or whether she might be induced to do so. One test of this hypothesis would be to establish an artificial environment whereby a selective advantage is given to those organisms which show signs of macroscopic superconductivity. An experiment will be described in which bacteria are screened and bred for traits such as heightened conductivity and diamagnetism in an attempt to evolve cells with these properties.
