β¦ Synopsis
A standardized, common language for describing branching medical interviews is proposed. Such a language must be easy to use by the non-computer-specialist, flexible enough to describe the patient+zomputer dialogue yet not require a very large computer system to support its operation. These attributes would facilitate the automation of medical interviews by simplifying the coding of the program. Of greater importance, such a language would allow easier communication and wider use of such programs beyond the centers where they originate.
