β¦ Synopsis
This project investigated the possibility of inspecting the quality of an aerosol can's manufacture by the condition monitoring o fits dynamic characteristics.
Aerosol cans were excited randomly using an electromagnetic vibrator while the sound produced was analysed using a microphone and a spectrum analyser. The natural frequencies found for a standard can were then used as a fingerprint' in a quality control process.
Experimentation showed that the monitoring of a can's natural frequencies was a reliable method of detecting defects and hence indicating a can's quality.
