✦ Synopsis

THREE FIGURES

I n 1935 Le Rlasurier described a method for the staining of macroscopic brain sections. His technique produces a selective staining of all gray matter and leaves the white matter uncolored. I n our laboratory, gross sections stained by this method have shown a very sharp differentiation between gray matter and white matter and have remained in good condition, now, for many months.

Realizing the difficulties incident to preserving the actual brain sections in such a manner as to make them readily available for teaching purposes, we have developed a simple and relatively inexpensive photographic method which not only permits a n accurate enlarging but also makes it possible to include the maximum of third dimensional inference. The photographic enlargements, in contrast to actual brain sections, may be permanently and conveniently displayed so that any gross feature of brain anatomy may be demonstrated on a moment's notice.

METHOD

The brain used for the photographs herein described was a grossly normal specimen obtained at autopsy and thoroughly fixed by immersion in 4% formaldehyde. It was cut in a series
